Day 11 Barcelona ----> home 7/3/11
The wake up call came and
everyone dutifully got up and was down for the bus by 4:00 am. Traffic was
great with hardly any cars on the road. I still noticed a young couple or two
walking home in the early morning, probably after a Saturday night of dancing.
The temperature was in the low 80s. Lourdes got us through to the airport and
helped us check in. We got through the lines and said our good byes to her and
Barcelona.
We arrived at the airport in
Amsterdam, Netherlands and was greeted by a large mob of people trying to pass
through, showing passports to get to their gate. Luckily, we had enough time to
get through to our gate. Ashley even bought some tulip bulbs. I was concerned
about passing through the agriculture part of U.S. Customs, but you can buy
bulbs that have already been approved. She still had to get in line for ag
customs, but got through pretty easily.
Our longest layover was in
Minnesota for a little more than five hours. We passed the time in our little
group alternately reading and exploring the airport. At 5:15 local time, we
left MSP airport and took our last hour and a half flight to Grand Rapids. Some
of us were a little silly from fatigue,
but there was no incident. We arrived to see our families at the airport
smiling and laughing. It was a wonderful trip.
